Paw Prints:

When visiting the beach, it is very important to leave nothing behind except your footprints.

Day at the Beach:

After barking at, biting and chasing the waves, LW decided to just watch them for awhile. That's our "Jersey Girl".

Birthday Dinner:

It's difficult to believe, but yes it is LW's first birthday. To celebrate we had a BBQ dinner. Ok, B and I had a BBQ dinner and she had the drippings. For her special treat, the ice cream palor around the corner has the cutest little ice cream cones which they handout to dogs, (and well I guess to small children). After dinner we took the birthday girl out for a treat. We did bring the camera in hopes of taking the most adorable photo of her with her cone, but she inhale it. She was quicker than the snap of the shutter!

She's Back!

LW has arrived home safe and sound, after her nearly 4 week stay at "girl's camp". She received rave reviews from all the kennel help. It is wonderful to have her home and just in time for her first birthday.

Time Passes too Quickly:

Work schedules have proven busier than usual not leaving much time for blogging fun.

Update: LW is no longer our little puppy girl, she has come into season and is currently “vacationing” at girl’s camp. It is truly amazing how quickly time passes. It seems like she arrived just yesterday.

A quick year in review:

The Jersey Devil:

How fortunate to border a 600 acre refuge; for four-legged creatures opportunities abound, including the chance for a good sniff. It would appear this now extends to a quick dip….in the mud! LW known for her limitless energy “set the bar at new heights” this afternoon, as completely out of the blue she became a “puddle jumper!” Legs flew, water and mud splashed about and before it was finished, Murphy (who is grey and white and was unfortunate enough to be standing in close proximity) ended up looking like a bit player in some horrible reenactment of a 1940’s minstrel show. It wasn’t pretty! Three puddles aligned in linear fashion, became a 1-2-3 lineup of pools in which our little girl happily romped. She went quickly from one end to the other before wheeling about joyfully on a reciprocal heading, charging at us full force! As she dashed with all her might the wind hooked her cheeks, pulling them back and making it appear as some sort of distorted sneer! Agast! A wild forest beast! Now we know what the mysterious unseen “Jersey Devil” might look like if he was covered in mud!

Miss "W":

There's another new kid in our puppy club with the arrival of a female "W" shepherd. She is so cute and such a good little girl.

The Smell of Spring:

Last nights sleep was interrupted by the smell of spring. As daylight lengthens, our furry forest creatures awake. After a long winters nap, they are now recharged, refreshed and in search of a new love with whom to spend the glorious days of Spring. One of our local neighborhood skunks was apparently putting on her best “perfume” in the hopes of attracting a new friend. Personally, I think she went overboard.
LW had never experienced this fragrance. This morning, in the hopes of making a great new discovery, she morphed into Sherlock Holmes. Although she used her astute observations and her continued sniffing of every nook and cranny of the yard to piece this puzzle together, this case went unsolved. She even went to Dr. "Orlando" Watson, whom is known for his intellectual prowess, for help.

Rare Moment:

It is a rare that LW allows Murphy to sleep on HIS bed. Murf, the usual “victim”, of LW’s frequent bullying and boundless energy has learned to relinquish his bed at her asking. Today, either from a new found bravery or from pure exhaustion, Murf refused to move. I did notice he’s sleeping with one eye open!

Speaking of:

Technically speaking LW is not on the sofa but yes she IS chewing on my foot.

Come Play:

With the recent destruction of all stuffie animals, poor LW, has but one toy, and, sadly, no one wanted to play.

Latest Causalities:

One human down with the flu, one human at work, results in 5 causalities.

1 – snowman
1 – bear in inner tube
1 - reindeer
1 - squeaky duck (Murf's favorite)
1 – Woobie
All disemboweled, in less than 24 hours, by one 8 month old black female Labrador.

First Snowfall!

With all of the excitement of a child on Christmas morning, LW runs out to play in her first snowfall.

Murf, frustrated by the snow falling in this ears, takes a break from the game of chase. This allows LW to further investigate this new ground cover. Ummm and tasty too!

A Few More Flakes:

As the flakes began to fall, LW, full of youthful innocence, is bewildered by the newness of this mysterious white rain. She looks to the heavens for answers. Orlando, older and wiser, decides to just shake it off.

Renewing:

There is nothing like the comfort of your favorite blanket and the peace and quite of your own place to help renew your spirit.

Snow Play:

I have to admit, I am jealous of the snow everyone is having. Don’t get me wrong, I am not a huge fan of winter but I don’t mind the colder darker months. It’s that time of year when you can come home from a long day out, put your jammies on, before dinner, and no one thinks it strange. You can have dinner by candle light and then lay around on the couch watching TV or reading a good book. There’s no pressure of having to enjoy the daylight. And besides, if it’s going to be cold, we might as well have a snow storm or two. As I take my daily review of my favorite blogs, I have been seeing wonderful photos of all the puppies romping and rolling in the snow. Some folks have even posted great videos. Here the pups are wearing such big smiles as they dig and snort about in this new, wet, white, cold ground cover. Even some of the puppies whom reside in the warmer parts of CA have been seen posed in the snow covered mountains tops.
I have witnessed the first snow play with other puppies and have treasured it almost as much as the memory of my sons’ first steps. So, you can imagine my delight when the weather forecast was for a cold and snowy day. And with any luck we would get enough of this wondrous white powder that school would be cancelled or at least there would be a delayed start to the day.
Well, it’s my turn to post a photo of LW enjoying the Jersey shore’s snowfall.

The Wonders of a little TLC:

Our dear friends, neighbors, fellow puppy raisers, both of whom are in their 80s have come to find that a rambunctious adolescent puppy can be a bit tough on newly replaced knee joints. And after 20 years of raising puppies, with heavy hearts they have decide to “take a break” for awhile. They in turn have become the wonderful, spoil her rotten–send her home, grandparents to our LW.

On occasion young puppies, for varied reasons, are not quite ready to enter into a full time puppy raising family. They need just a little extra TLC.

Solution; our retired puppy raising friends are now the proud caretakers of this not quite ready to be placed “S” litter shepherd puppy.

He is adorable and I am sure, that in their loving care, he will be, in no time at all, ready to take on all the exploration these dog guides in training need. But for now he will rest peacefully in their loving arms.

Easily Entertained:

Her “OO” (cookie) accidentally got knocked under the stove. I wanted to retrieve it for her but I was being entertained. She contorted herself into unimaginable positions.
