The Smell of Spring:

Last nights sleep was interrupted by the smell of spring. As daylight lengthens, our furry forest creatures awake. After a long winters nap, they are now recharged, refreshed and in search of a new love with whom to spend the glorious days of Spring. One of our local neighborhood skunks was apparently putting on her best “perfume” in the hopes of attracting a new friend. Personally, I think she went overboard.
LW had never experienced this fragrance. This morning, in the hopes of making a great new discovery, she morphed into Sherlock Holmes. Although she used her astute observations and her continued sniffing of every nook and cranny of the yard to piece this puzzle together, this case went unsolved. She even went to Dr. "Orlando" Watson, whom is known for his intellectual prowess, for help.

We are definitely smelling the signs of spring also. We smell those skunks to. Mom just hopes we don't find one. She has visions of being up very early in the morning bathing us in tomato juice..

Ha ha! It is a good thing she didn't find what she was looking for... Eagle is definitely smelling spring too. I am pretty sure that he just recently discovered he had a nose!

Sophie has seen a skunk from 20 feet away. Fortunately, we walked out the door with her on a leash, or it would have been some smelly air. As it happened, the skunk just ambled away, as though completely bored, and Sophie went on the alert for a good two hours.
